Q. I'm interested to apply for the AS to BSDH Completion program, where should I start?
It's best to speak to a school counselor at 17勛圖 regarding class equivalency and class requirement inquiries. Before making an appointment with a counselor, you will need to apply for admissions at 17勛圖 Admission - 17勛圖 Online Application
Once you receive your school ID via email, which may take 1-2 days, you can make an appointment with any of the counselors who are appointed for the AS to BS-DH program at FHDA https://foothill.edu/counseling/. The list of school counselors are as follows: Jue Thao, Isaac Escoto, and Leticia Serna.
To achieve the Bachelor's Degree in Dental Hygiene at 17勛圖, you need to complete the IGETC or CSU GE pattern and complete the 8 courses in the AS to BSDH program. A school counselors can help you figure out what GE courses you need to take to fulfill the IGETC or CSU GE pattern.
Once you figure out the GE courses you need to complete the IGETC or CSU GE pattern, you can make a decision if you want to: complete the GE courses before applying for the AS to BSDH program OR take the GE courses together with the required courses in the program. You can definitely take the GE courses and program courses concurrently while you're in the program.

Q. Is the program accredited?
Q. How long does it take to get the degree?
Q.Will I need to be on campus?
The courses are all online, so there is no on-campus requirement. However, students are invited to attend the commencement ceremony on-campus in June if they wish.
Note: Individuals who currently reside in certain states are not allowed to enroll in online courses out of state. These states include Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, Washington DC. Please contact A&R (650) 949-7325 for more information.
Q. I meet all the requirements. How soon can I be admitted into the program?
Applicants are admitted into the program on first come first served basis. It is possible that there will be a waiting period before the next admission cycle. Always check the website for updates.
We admit applicants twice a year, in Spring and Fall quarters. See application periods on the "Apply for the Program" tab.
Q. Do I need to complete the CSU or IGETC pattern before I can apply for the program?
If you are missing few GE courses, you can still apply and take those courses concurrently with the program courses. But it would be advisable to take them before starting the program if there's a waiting period.
Q. What is the CSU or IGETC GE Pattern?
Completion of the CSU GE-Breadth or IGETC is required for the Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene. Completion of the Associate Degree GE pattern does not complete the GE requirements for the Bachelor of Sciences degree. Students with AS in Dental Hygiene will need to take a few additional GE courses for the Bachelor of Science degree.
In most cases missing GE course requirements are as follows:
- English 1B
- Sociology
- Humanities courses
- Statistics
General education may be transferred from accredited colleges but must be equivalent
to 17勛圖 courses and transferable to CSU or UC. All required general education must be completed with a grade of C or higher before
the bachelors degree can be granted.

Students can take GE courses concurrently with the program courses.

Q. Who can help me with class equivalency?
General education may be transferred from accredited colleges but must be equivalent to 17勛圖 courses and transferable to CSU or UC.
You can speak to a counselor at 17勛圖 to determine class equivalencies and GE requirements to fulfill the IGETC or CSU GE pattern. You may apply to 17勛圖 College for admission and once you received your student ID in 1-4 days, you may make an appointment with a counselor.
Any counselor may assist you with our program. However, the following counselors works closely with our the program are Ryan Huynh, Jue Thao and Isaac Escoto.

Q. How do I send my transcripts to 17勛圖?
You can obtain your official College Transcripts by requesting a copy from all the
colleges you've attended. Typically, registrar offices or registration departments
at the corresponding college will assist you with this.
- Please note that unofficial copies will not be accepted and may automatically disqualify you.
- You can request electronic transcripts or e-transcripts from your previous school(s) directly to 17勛圖. If they need an email address,
the official transcripts can be sent to .

- Official 17勛圖 and/or De Anza College transcripts are not required. If you took courses at 17勛圖 or De Anza College previously, you do not
need to request your transcripts.
- If you cannot obtain any of the required documents, please be prepared to provide a letter of explanation, which will be attached to your application.
Q. How much does the program cost?
The course fees are $87 per unit, so the program will cost approximately $4,000 ($9700
for out-of-state students), not including additional costs for textbooks or any other
course materials.
Estimated cost for books is $200-$350.
Q. How is the tuition paid?
Tuition is paid as you register for your courses every quarter.
You can also apply for an Installment Plan.
Q. Is financial aid available?

Q. Is Statistics a required course?
If a student has not taken a transferable level math course to fulfill the IGETC or CSU GE Pattern, it is highly recommended they take Statistics.
It is highly recommended, but not required, to take Statistics before registering for IDS300.
Q. Should I make an appointment with a school counselor before applying for the program?
Yes, we highly recommend to make an appointment to speak to a 17勛圖 counselor before applying to the program.
They can analyze your transcripts to determine the GE courses you will need to complete. They can check for course equivalency and give you insight if there is any changes with GE requirements with CSU or IGETC GE patterns.

Q. What is the course format?
The AS to BSDH courses are desinged for working dental hygienists, they are 100% online and the course format is asynchronous. If you have further questions, you may send your inquiries to astobsdh@fhda.edu.
Q. What is a capstone project?
The capstone project is a three-quarter process in which students pursue independent research on a question or problem of their choice with the guidance of a faculty mentor and culminating in the production of a substantial paper that reflects a deep understanding of the chosen topic.
The topic for the capstone project should be related to the field in which the student
is interested in pursuing a career after earning the degree and may involve one of
the following areas but not limited to:
- Dental Hygiene Education
- Dental Public Health
- Corporate Educators/Administrators
- Policy-making
- Clinical Dental Hygiene/ Basic Science
