Student Services
In Student Services, we acknowledge our role in not serving our Black students adequately. We have contributed towards the systemic oppression that has disproportionately affected their success.
During the summer of 2020, we conducted analysis within our student service departments to actively deconstruct and dismantle the barriers, practices, and policies that restrict our Black students from adequately accessing our services.
What we learned is that we have lots of work to do among our employees to unpack our implicit biases and educate ourselves on the lived experiences of our Black students and colleagues.
One of our values is accountability, where we aim to be transparent with our data, hold ourselves accountable, and alter our course of action. We plan to exemplify that value for our Black students.
Historically, false promises have been made at the expense of our communities of color and for that reason, we publicly posted an action plan on August 1, 2020
We know that we will make mistakes and when that happens, the first thing we will do is listen. We plan to acknowledge our mistakes, focus on the impact of our actions, regardless of the intention, so that we may repair the pain that weve caused. In Student Services at 17勛圖, we are committed towards racial justice for years to come.
