ENGL 7 Native American Literature

Learn about the history, development, and diversity of Native American literatures, from pre-contact civilizations to present-day tribal cultures. Readings in traditional creation myths, songs, and stories from a variety of tribal cultures; nineteenth and twentieth century autobiographical narratives; and significant works of fiction, poetry, and non-fiction prose by contemporary Native American authors. Featured book includes The Surrounded by D'Arcy McNickle.

ENGL 10A Literature & The Environment

Study literature from an environmental perspective, with analysis of texts across time, place, and space to explore the relationship between nature and culture, the human and non-human. Explore how literature reflects, shapes, and constructs perceptions of built and natural environments, with emphasis on intersections between literature, activism, and environmental justice from a wide range of perspectives. ENGL 12A All Power To The People: Literature Of The Black Panther Party

All Power to the People

Explore varied forms of literature related to, and inspired by, the Black Panther Party for Self Defense, founded in 1966 in Oakland, California, by Elbert Howard, Huey P. Newton, and Bobby Seale. The class will exam the organization’s inception to present-day, as well as subsequent resulting literature related to past and current social concerns, such as racial discourse, and film productions and documentaries, and evaluation of the Black Panther Party's continuing and present-day impact on society and popular culture.

THTR 8 Multicultural Theatre Arts in Modern America, Online, CRN 32241

Explore important post-modern American theatre movements from the 1950s to the present day examining the specific cultural traditions of these performances. Focus will be on the performance artists and major influences of African Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans, European Americans, and Chicano/Latino Americans and the cultural movements that inspired these performances. This course meets both the Humanities and Unitied States Cultures & Communities GE requirements.
