Captioning Options

Captioning My Own Videos

If you create your own videos and use them in your courses make sure to caption them.

Canvas Studio

If you use Studio to create your videos, you may caption them from within Studio. It does machine captioning, which are fairly accurate; however, you must edit them to ensure that the captions are completely accurate.

Note that if your videos are hosted in Studio, you will not be able to access them outside of 17勛圖. If you want to access your videos outside of 17勛圖, you might consider hosting your videos at 3C Media Solutions or on YouTube.

3C Media Solutions

3C Media Solutions is a free hosting and captioning service provided to all of the California Community Colleges. You can embed the videos onto any web platform and be guaranteed of more privacy than YouTube provides. 

The captioning service is DECT grant funded so it is only available for videos that are used for course instruction.

  • Upload your videos to your YouTube channel
  • YouTube will add auto-captioning and you must edit the captions to  ensure they are accurate.

Captioning VoiceThreads

To caption VoiceThreads we request funds through the ,  which supports professional captioning and transcription services for multimedia materials used in California community colleges and is administered by College of the Canyons.

Captioning Videos I Don't Own

The DRC can help you caption videos that you do not own. Before contacting them make sure you have received copyrights to the video.

Contact the Accommodations Coordinator at the DRC.
