Snippets & Assets

Snippets & Assets Overview

Both snippets and assets are type of reusble content the can be created and used throughout the 17勛圖 website. You can add a snippet or asset to your page from the WYSIWYG toolbar.

Snippets

Snippets are a type of reusable content that once placed on a page, become part of the page's code. The snippet content is then edited in without affecting the original snippet file.

Snippets are often used for pieces of content with specific formatting, such as tables, buttons, and displaying quotes or images. By using snippets, consistent formatting can be ensured across pages.

Snippet creation and management is accessible to level 9 and 10 users only, but any level user can place a snippet on a page.

Adding a Snippet to Your Page

Follow these steps to insert a snippet on a page.

  1. While in an editable region, select the "Insert Snippet" icon
  2. Choose a snippet to add to the page. You can use the top dropdown to view a specific category, or filter snippets by name. Snippets are previewed on the right-hand side, but not all snippet styling renders, as some of that depends on which page the snippet is placed in.
  3. Click Insert to place the snippet on the page.
  4. Fill out the snippet as desired with content.
  5. Save your changes and exit the editable region to see how the snippet displays.

NOTE

  • Oftentimes a snippet appears one way while editing and another in the page preview. A common type of snippet is a table transformation, where the snippet appears in the editable region as a table that you fill out. Then, when you save and preview, the information you entered in the table is placed in more complex styling.
  • The snippets on your site are unique to your page design. For specific questions about what content should go in a snippet, contact a web administrator at your institution.

Removing a Snippet from Your Page

Removing a snippet from a page depends on the snippet content.

  1. If it's a table, right-click the table and select "Delete Table."
  2. Otherwise, click and drag your cursor to highlight the unwanted content, and then hit Backspace or Delete.

Assets

Assets are resusable, pre-created bits of complete code that you can drop into your website. You do not have control over how they look or function. These can be photo buttons, contact lists, forms, video or anything that can rendered on a website.

An example is the Apply for Admission button.

If you were to try to edit it, you would see this in your OU Campus page.

Asset example

The point of an asset is to create a central item that can be used in many places. It keeps consistency and can be updated once and that change can populate to all pages where that asset resides.

Assets are a kind of reusable content in OU Campus that takes a single source of content and places it on as many pages as you want. Then, when the asset is edited and , the content is automatically updated on all those pages.

The different types of assets available also allow for some more complicated types of content than you can create in the . You cannot edit an asset on a page, but must open the original asset to make and save any changes.

If you need an asset edited, contact ceballosjulie@foothill.edu.
