Getting Started

Eligibility

EOPS provides over and above services and programs to full-time 17勛圖 students who qualify for the California College Promise Grant (formerly known as the BOG [Board of Governors] Fee Waiver), and who meet the programs financially and educationally disadvantaged eligibility criteria.

 

To be eligible for EOPS, you must

  • Be a California resident (AB 540 students are eligible to apply)
  • Register as a full-time student (12 or more units) or meet exeption waiver criteria to register in less units.
  • Qualify to receive a California College Promise Grant (formerly known as the BOG [Board of Governors] Fee Waiver)
  • Have completed less than 105 degree applicable units (excluding ESL and remedial coursework) Applicants who have received a bachelors degree and higher are not eligible for EOPS.
  • Meet educationally disadvantaged criteria-Read below.
Educationally Disadvantaged Critieria

As of October 24, 1987, Title V regulations state that in order for a student to be eligible to receive EOPS (Extended Opportunity Program and Services), she/he must be educationally disadvantaged as determined by the EOPS director or the designee (Article 2, section 56220).

In making that determination for the student, the EOPS director or designee shall consider one or more of the following factors:

  • The student did not qualify for enrollment into the minimum level English or mathematics course that is
  •  applicable to the associate degree.
  • The student did not graduate from high school or did not obtain a G.E.D.
  • The student graduated from high school with a grade point average below 2.50 on a 4.00 scale.
  • The student was previously enrolled in high school or college remedial education.
  • Other factors as determined by the EOPS Director or Designee

CARE (The Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education) is a supplemental program designed to help single-parent students succeed at 17勛圖. In addition to receiving over and above support services provided by the EOPS Program and in collaboration with the California Department of Social Services and the states CalWorks Program, CARE participants receive benefits that address their unique needs as college students.  

To be Eligible for CARE, you must

meet all of the following requirements. Verification is required: 

  • You are pursuing an educational, vocational, or 
    job-training program at 17勛圖 that will lead 
    to a completion certificate, associate degree, or 
    university-transfer objective 
  • You are a participant in the 17勛圖 EOPS Program 
  • You receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families 
    (TANF) benefits and cash aid 
  • You are a single head of household as determined by the 
    California Department of Social Services  
  • You are a single parent and are at least age 18  
  • You have at least one dependent child under the age of 14 

To remain in good standing Participants must follow the Mutual Responsibility Contract (MRC) Agreement
