The 17³Ô¹Ï Office of Retention services is designed to provide encouragement,
motivation, and direct connection to tutoring services, on-campus resources, as well
as, other support services. As the Program Coordinator of the Office of Retention
Services, I will work with you 1 on 1 to develop an action plan that will help you
succeed in the classroom. I can also assist you in getting you in touch with other

Chris Chavez is a Bay Area native who joined the Retention Services team in June of
2017. After graduating from Saratoga High, Chris earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History
from the University of Michigan. After college, Chris moved back to California to
the Sacramento Area where he started working for Sac State. While in Sacramento, Chris
earned a Master’s Degree in Higher Education from Drexel University’s Center for Graduate
Studies, located down the street from the state capital building.
Prior to 17³Ô¹Ï, Chris worked at Sacramento State for six years where he worked
in the athletic department as an Academic Coach for Student-Athletes, and as a volunteer
assistant for the Hornet Football team. During his time at Sac State, Chris had the
fortune of working with a diverse group of students who inspired him to pursue a career
in public education. Chris firmly believes that no matter what a student’s background
or academic capabilities may be, as long as that student is willing to work, he will
be willing to teach.
