Shawna Aced reported that a number of faculty recorded C-grades – which have to be turned back into a C grade. C- grades are not legal in the education code Mike Murphy announced that we (FHDA) will have a new ERP/SIS system. Educational Information system (EIS) interface with the college business system. The District is negotiating to purchase a new system – faculty should make their requirements known to ETAC Committee. Mike Murphy briefly discussed the ERP (EIS), that this is a very big change to the campus, and that the lifetime of this system will be very long. At the last board meeting, the ERP system was listed as one of ETS’s top three technology priorities to work on. Andy Fraknoi observed that the “GE student” are decreasing their enrollment in technical divisions, e.g., sciences. He further noted that students don’t seem quite as able to study and conduct themselves in a capable academic manner. It was noted that the student population has shifted away from “the traditional academic students”, or that we may be getting overflow from other colleges, who are taking impacted classes. Bob Barr can look at the data with a much keener eye if he knows exactly what we are looking for. Looking at ESL – we (17ГдЙЯ) has seen a 22% drop in enrollment in key classes Consent Calendar – Football coach (in the tenure process) is leaving and will need to be replaced. The District is now looking for 106 full time faculty, staff, and admin positions. A motion to suspend traditional rules, so that the consent calendar can be approved, was passed. The consent calendar was then passed. Minutes will be reviewed on February 5th. Formal agenda Carolyn Holcroft-Burns has asked that the ETUDES – NG resolution be kept as informational. During discussion of this item, it was noted that many faculty have had to repeat (again) some of the 4-hour ETUDES-NG training, as the CMS has changed so much. The required payment for the mandatory ETUDES-NG training is for online courses only (in person its free). One senator noted that professional development is really the power of the Senate, not the administration, so why is the administration requiring (professional development) training for us for ETUDES-NG? A comment in response was made that 17ГдЙЯ is now a ‘consumer’ of the ETUDES – NG software, rather than part of the development process. 17ГдЙЯ faculty must follow the requirements and deadlines of the alliance, as ‘consumers’, rather than as faculty. Another senator reiterated that we, as faculty, are being held hostage to the process, and the process of both transition and training is exerting a significant strain on our faculty. A comment was made that 17ГдЙЯ administration has entered into a legal contract with the NG consortium, which requires professional development (training) on the part of faculty, without the approval on the part of the senate. The CTIS report, a response to ETUDES-NG was briefly discussed, and a meeting to be held tomorrow (Tuesday) January 22, 2007, with 17ГдЙЯ administration, Judy Baker, and Michael Loceff, a primary author of that report. Karen Gillette presented a resolution regarding block scheduling/blended scheduling. The focus of the resolution was that language be specific about his being a return to the blended scheduling. Perhaps run another student satisfaction survey on preference towards block/blended scheduling. This might be an interesting report to show the new president in fall. De Anza remains on the blended scheduling. Senators were advised to share this resolution with their division faculty, as passing this resolution would change our position on the block scheduling. Election committee language of the ballot for part-time representation in senate. A change to the resolution for the part-time faculty representative was suggested; that the part-time rep be voted on by part-time faculty only, rather than by all faculty, as currently written. It was noted that this is an ‘at-large’ position, and in the past, all faculty had participated in election of such positions, including those help in executive committee. The ballot language will be modified again, and once approved, will be amended in the online ballot. The election is still targeted for late February or early March. Paul Starer announced that the Presidential search committee has 46 applicants in the paper screening process, which will be reviewed during the month of February. TRC – Paul Starer reported on the FA negotiation of the tenure process (article 6). FA should solicit feedback from the senate on issues of concern in the TRC process. Paul has proposed a joint FA senate committee to review the various issues as well as evaluation tools. Paul Starer mentioned a number of items that the TRC process has elicited, including an awareness that probationary faculty have academic freedom. Disabilities Resource Center (DRC) form – Janet Spybrook. Janet reviewed the form with Senate. Janet reviewed some of the regulations for students with approved learning disabilities when taking exams, and the use of tape (mp3) recording of lectures. Questions were asked about faculty wanting an understanding of the individual needs of a student better. There was a dialog about regulation and process for sharing of information of private student information about accommodation and disabilities.
