The committees work is expected to continue for one and a half to two years. There is a $500 stipend per quarter. Interested faculty should contact Rosemary Arca. Faculty are needed to serve on in the student grievance panel pool. Interested faculty should contact Dolores Davison. The Oct. 29 meeting of the joint 17Թ - De Anza senates is tentatively scheduled to be held at De Anza. The Area B meeting (i.e. the meeting of local academic senates) will be held at 17Թ on October 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Interested faculty are encouraged to attend please contact Paul Starer for more information. There will be a TRC orientation and training meeting this Wednesday, October 3 from 3:30 p.m. - 5 p.m. in room 3402. Faculty who are interested in serving as At-Large TRC meetings should contact Dolores Davison or Paul Starer. Note that in order to serve on committees forming this fall, faculty must attend a TRC orientation/training session. The June 4, 2007 Academic Senate minutes were approved as written. The consent calendar was approved with the stipulation that faculty being approved to serve on TRC committees will attend the upcoming TRC orientation meeting on Wednesday October 3 if they have not already attended one. Action/Information Items: Dolores Davison reviewed the purpose of the 17Թ Academic Senate, and explained some of the uses of faculty senate dues. Note that dues may be aid either by check or by automatic payroll deduction. Much more information regarding senate functions is available on the State Academic Senate of California Community Colleges website at  HYPERLINK "http://www.academicsenate.cc.ca.us" http://www.academicsenate.cc.ca.us This year, Institutional Research will be exploring the possibility of transitioning FHDA to a different academic calendar, such as semesters, 16-week compressed semesters, etc. Faculty should anticipate receiving a significant amount of information outlines pros/cons, etc. in the coming months. The state senate plenary sessions will be held in Burlingame, CA this spring. Faculty interesting in attending may contact Paul Starer or Dolores Davison. Both the 17Թ Academic Senate President and Vice President positions will be up for election this spring quarter (Spring 2008). Consequently, an elections committee must be formed, to consist of three members from the senate executive committee (i.e. senators). Faculty interested in serving on the elections committee should contact Paul Starer.. Note that the bulk of the vice presidents work is in chairing the campus curriculum committee, so a faculty member interested in running for this position should consider becoming involved with their division curriculum committee and/or attending the college curriculum committee meetings this year. One issue that the senate may wish to reconsider this academic year is the procedure for granting equivalency. Although the senate did pass a resolution addressing this matter last year, senate officers are still experiencing difficulties with the equivalency process. College Curriculum Committee Update C3MS version 2.0 is scheduled to roll out next week. The CCC will be reevaluating the GE pattern this academic year. The current pattern has seven areas in which students can take courses for general education. As of December 1, 2007, the CCC will no longer accept new courses for approval under the current pattern. Faculty who wish to have a course approved for inclusion within the GE pattern must submit their request to the CCC no later than December 1, 2007. The CCC expects to begin reviewing courses for the new pattern as of Fall 2009. Standalone courses (i.e. those non-applicable for a degree or certificates) are now approved locally rather than at the state level. There will be an orientation for the approval process during the CCC meeting tomorrow, October 2. The CCC will be intimately involved in the Basic Skills Initiative this year. Dolores Davison will be stepping down as CCC chair in the spring quarter. In May 2007, the Board of Governors mandated that online courses must be separately reviewed and approved, effective August 2007. More to follow in the Curriculum Committee meetings this quarter.
